Aztecs to Face Army in Armed Forces Bowl

San Diego State University's football team has been invited to play in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth Texas.

On Friday, Dec. 23 the Aztecs will take on Army, a team they've beaten twice in two meetings including the last time they played in 2012.

SDSU finished the season with 10 wins and two losses including victories over Pac-12 schools Arizona State and Stanford and they were awaiting an invite to a more prestigious bowl game.

An expected match up with another Pac-12 foe Arizona at the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara was derailed when Ohio State was left out of the College Football playoff forcing a reshuffling of the bowl match ups.

Head Coach Rocky Long had to be somewhat disappointed not to get a ranked opponent, but still managed to say he is looking forward to the game.

"We're excited about it. We have several kids on our team from Texas. That makes it fun for them," Long said.

"It's always an honor to play a military academy team."

Long said he'll be paying attention to this week's Army-Navy game to look for keys on how to stop the upcoming bowl opponent.
