Ex-Cop Demands New Trial

Lawyers for Anthony Arevalos now claim two of his victims gave false testimony

A former San Diego police officer convicted of sex crimes against female DUI suspects is demanding a new trial.

Lawyers for Anthony Arevalos now claim two of his victims gave false testimony.

In November last year, a jury declared Arevalos guilty of sexual battery and assault.

Court documents reveal that victim "Jeannie E." told the jury she had not filed a claim for civil damages against the city, when she had in fact demanded more than $1 million.

The defense also claims another victim mislead the jury about her plan to sue the city for emotional damages.

The lawyers say those victims had a "financial incentive" to testify against Arevalos.

The request for a new trial will be heard next week.
