Your Water Bill Could Be Going Way Up

City residents could soon be paying water bills that are much higher than normal, according to a published report.

While San Diego's water department has not set its plan in stone, plans are under way, reported the voiceofsandiego.org. Instead of having residents water on alternate days, as has been done in the past, the city would figure out how much residents used on average between 2005 and 2007 and then ration a percentage of that amount. Anybody using more water then the rationed amount would then have to pay two to four times as much for the overage.

The City Council would have to approve the plan, which could come up for review in April.

Elsewhere in the county, plans are being hatched in North County to charge thousands of dollars for each new water heater that's installed.

"It's going to be a big shock to the system," said Kim Thorner, the Olivenhain Municipal Water District's general manager. "Water cuts are going to be pretty dramatic to the building industry, to the economy."
