Wrong-Way Driver Rams Border Patrol Agent

Agent remains hospitalized

An off-duty Border Patrol agent is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a wrong-way wreck in the South Bay late Monday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the unidentified agent was on a motorcycle on his way to work when he was hit by Gregory Cabral, 46, of Winchester, after 11:30 p.m.  The accident took place on the eastbound lanes of state Route 905.  Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol Cabral was speeding into oncoming traffic.

Cabral crashed into the Border Patrol agent north of E Street, according to the report.  He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, felony driving under the influence and assault with a deadly weapon.

"We're a pretty tight knit family here at the Border Patrol and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family," said Mark Endicott, spokesman for the Border Patrol.
