Woman Hurt After Alleged ‘Ghost Riding' Wreck

Police in San Diego County arrested a man they say climbed out of his moving car, which crashed and injured a woman riding on top.
     
Neil Tillman, 29, was trying the stunt called "ghost riding," in which a driver exits and then re-enters a moving car, according to Carslbad police. Investigators contend that Tillman got out of his rented car on the 300 block of Juniper Avenue at about 4 a.m. Monday while his wife, Melodie Tillman, and a friend were on top. Neil then "attempted to videotape the stunt," Carlsbad police Lt. Paul Mendez told the North County Times.
     
The driverless vehicle hit a parked car and the friend fell off and struck her head, investigators said. Carlsbad police said the woman injured in the crash sustained fractures to her forehead and eye sockets, and that she may also have fractured a pair of vertebrae. Police said that the extent of her injuries will determine what charges Neil Tillman faces.
     
Neil was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, and his wife was arrested for investigation of public intoxication.
