Several people waiting outside the San Diego Convention Center for Comic-Con identified a woman struck and killed while crossing the street as a Twilight fan who had been camping out to see the films' stars.
The unidentified 54-year-old woman was hit by the car around 9:20 a.m. near a major intersection in front of the building set to house the popular convention according to San Diego police.
"The vehicle going westbound had the green light. Apparently the pedestrian stumbled and fell and the car clipped her." said Sgt. Ron Glass.
SDPD Spokeswoman Andra Brown said the woman was starting to run across the street when she fell.
Officers quickly closed down northbound Harbor Drive from 5th Avenue to 8th Avenue and taped off a station wagon.
The woman was bleeding heavily from the head when she was transported to Mercy Hospital. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital officials said.
Several people camping out near the convention center said the woman had been with the group since Sunday.

There are several Twitter users identifying the crash victim but officials have not confirmed the woman's identity. The attention prompted the phrase #RIPTwiFanG to trend on Twitter.
There is even a memorial fund set up for the Twilight fan by others who follow the novels by Stephenie Meyer and the films.
“One of the best parts of this fandom is the way we all come together. It’s a huge family,” said Sharon Lottes who was one of the Twilight fans outside Comic-Con Tuesday.
“These lines become family. This is where you meet your new family members.”
The woman was struck by a couple traveling in a Subaru station wagon. The couple was wearing Comic-Con badges and T-shirts and was going to be part of the convention this week.
They are said to be devastated by what happened.
"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" is set to be released on Nov. 16, The Associated Press reported.
The distributors for the final "Twilight" film, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, said in a statement that they "and the entire 'Twilight' community are saddened by the death of a Comic-Con fan today due to a traffic accident during the hours leading up to this year's convention in San Diego. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim's family and friends. She will be respectfully remembered this Thursday in Hall H."
