Woman Struck and Killed on I-15 Near Gopher Canyon

A Del Mar woman was struck and killed on Interstate 15 Friday after she got out of her vehicle following a spin-out, the California Highway Patrol said.

The woman’s car spun out in the northbound lanes of I-15 near Gopher Canyon just before 2 a.m., the CHP said.

Her Nissan Sentra was not damaged and sat on the right-hand shoulder, officials said.

When the driver got out, she walked into the path of a Freightliner big rig and trailer.

The big rig driver pulled off the highway onto the Gopher Canyon Road exit and called the CHP.

Gopher Canyon Road is east of Bonsall and north of San Marcos.

The Nissan Sentra driver was identified by CHP officers as a 32-year-old Del Mar resident.
