A woman shot by a police officer after reportedly raising a loaded rifle at officers in El Cajon died from her injuries, the medical examiner confirmed Monday.
Jamie Renee Fitzgerald called police from her apartment on Camacho. the evening of July 8, saying she wanted to relinquish a loaded rifle, according to police.
When officers arrived, Fitzgerald held the gun up to officers. Despite negotiation efforts, she leveled the gun at officers. A 23-year veteran with the El Cajon Police Department shot at her three times.
Fitzgerald died in the hospital Friday. Her death is listed as a homicide, according to the Medical Examiner's report.
