Woman Reports Sexual Battery on Street in Vista

A woman walking on a sidewalk in Vista reported that a man who was following her pushed her down and touched her inappropriately, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

The incident happened in the 500 block of Civic Center Drive around 1 p.m. Monday.

The man following her was on a bicycle, and he reportedly tried to pull the woman off the sidewalk and into a nearby building before pushing her to the ground when she resisted.

The alleged attack is having a chilling effect on some young women that live nearby.

"I've never seen that around here so I don't know. I don't know how I would react," neighbor Alejandra Zamora said.

Zamora and close friend Ruby Gomez often walk the same path and say they've never really feared for their safety.

"It made me feel very scared about the neighborhood,” Gomez said.

After the incident, A bystander drove the woman home where her family called the Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect is described as a thin, light-skinned man, approximately 20 years old, clean shaven, with a black short sleeve t-shirt, black short wavy hair and riding a black BMX style bicycle. He was estimated to be 5 foot 6 and weigh 150 lbs.

Detectives from the Vista Station are investigating this assault. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest.
