Woman Drives Off I-15, Crashes near North County Mall

Two people survived a violent crash near a North County mall in which a car  drove off Interstate 15, continued through a fence, slammed into a tree and flipped over onto its roof.

The driver managed to get out of the car and wave down drivers on I-15 to help her passenger who was injured.

The car landed on its roof in the parking lot near BJ’s restaurant at Westfield North County Mall.

The 2005 Saab was traveling northbound on the highway just north of Via Rancho Parkway just after 2 a.m.

Caley M. Coyne, 21, from Vista was arrested. Her passenger, a 25-year-old man, suffered major injuries and was transported to Palomar Hospital, according to CHP officers.

Coyne, who suffered moderate injuries, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol, officials said.
