Woman Comes Forward in Deadly Hit and Run

Lisa Hutchinson thinks she may have hit and killed 18-year-old Steven Kelley

A woman came forward and told Carlsbad police she likely hit and killed a teenaged pedestrian Friday night.

Steven Kelley of Carlsbad was hit in a northbound lane of El Camino Real south of Camino Vida Roble about 9:45 p.m. Friday, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

“The first vehicle fled the scene and the second vehicle stopped to render aid,” the Medical Examiner’s office said.

A Carlsbad police officer saw Kelley in the road and stopped to help.

Lisa Hutchinson called police telling them she hit something on El Camino Real, drove home and told her husband. They went back but couldn't find anything.

The district attorney's office will decide any criminal charges once the investigation is finished.

Anyone with more information was urged to call police at (760) 931-2197.
