Will Ferrell Hosts Comedy Benefit in San Diego

Actor and comedian Will Ferrell – who’s “kind of a big deal” in San Diego – was in town Saturday to host a night of comedy at the San Diego Civic Theatre.

Nice venue, right? Naturally, the “Anchorman” star is the king of keeping it classy in San Diego.

The “Comedy Explosion, A Night of Comedy and Big Game Cats” begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature performances as well as music from Ferrell and his big-name comic pals.

The lineup includes Tenacious D duo Jack Black and Kyle Glass, as well as “The Office” and “The Hangover” actor Ed Helms. Comic and actor Nick Kroll is also set to hit the stage, as well as Hannibal Buress and Whitney Cummings.

“We can’t be certain, but this could very well be the greatest experience of your life,” says an online event listing for the show.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Ferrell’s favorite charity, Cancer for College, a foundation that grants college scholarships to cancer survivors. Learn more about the charity here.

Ferrell has hosted events in San Diego for the charity in the past, including a pub crawl in April 2012 that included stops at local bars such as the Blind Lady Ale House, Tiger! Tiger! and the Automatic Brewing Company. In 2011, Ferrell hosted another pub crawl in San Diego to benefit Cancer for College, too.

It seems that Ferrell can’t stay away from America’s Finest City.

In May, the actor donned his famous “Ron Burgandy” polyester leisure suits in San Diego as he filmed scenes for “Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgandy” at SeaWorld.

Earlier that month, an open casting call for “Anchorman 2” was also held in San Diego, garnering interest from thousands of locals hoping to share screen time with San Diego’s favorite big-screen newsman.

The “Anchorman 2” sequel hits theaters on Dec. 20. Until then, you stay classy, San Diego.
