Crash on Wildcat Canyon Road Sparks Fire

Powerlines were down and sparked several spot fires in the vegetation, officials said.

A vehicle collision sparked a brush fire and closed Wildcat Canyon Road near Lakeside Tuesday.

The rollover accident occurred at 6:04 a.m. north of Willow Road.

California Highway Patrol officers say the investigation is in its early stages but it appears one driver may have tried passing another.

Powerlines were down and sparked several spot fires in the vegetation, officials said. Heartland and Lakeside firefirefighters said the fires were quickly extinguished.

Each driver suffered moderate injuries, officials said, and was transported to Sharp Memorial.

Both victims were trapped and had to be pulled from the cars, firefighters said.

A Sig Alert has been issued. Wildcat Canyon Road was closed in both directions.

San Diego Gas & Electric crews will work throughout the day to replace a power pole knocked down in the collision.
