Wife of Oceanside Police Chief Sentenced

The wife of Oceanside Police Chief Frank McCoy was sentenced Friday for firing multiple rounds during a standoff with police.

Brinda McCoy, 49, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to our media partner North County Times. She was was convicted of five counts of assault on a police officer and discharging a firearm with gross negligence at the couple’s Orange County home on Dec. 16, 2010.

Prosecutors say McCoy called 911 before the standoff, but then refused to leave her house pointing the gun at her head and the ceiling before firing twice at officers taking cover behind parked cars.

She was shot with a beanbag gun before taken into custody.

Frank McCoy has maintained his position in Oceanside since the incident occurred.
