‘We're Playing for Justice': Softball Tournament Held for Homicide Victim

Friends and family of Leticia Arroyo, 34, who was found dead in her home in an apparent homicide in Santee earlier this month, held a softball tournament to bring her loved ones together and to raise money for her funeral.

Arroyo was a graduate of Mount Miguel High School, where she excelled as a softball player.

“She was an awesome player,” her uncle and godfather Ruben Reyes said. “I just want to thank everybody who came out today. It’s a great turnout. I’m just overwhelmed with love from all the friends and family.”

Arroyo’s roommate came home to their residence in the 8800 block of Mission Greens Road, near Mission Gorge, around 10:40 p.m. October 5 to find her unconscious on the floor, critically injured, The San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDSO), said.

“We’re hoping whoever did this comes forward or they catch him. It hurts every day,” Reyes said.

Almost two weeks later, homicide detectives have yet to name a suspect.

“As goes with any family member you’re just going to miss them, you know, having them around,” he said. “I just want to say that I love her and I’m going to miss her very much … Everybody here loves her too. That’s why we’re putting on this game.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Arroyo's family with funeral costs. You can donate to the fund here.
