Warning Issued for Bacteria in Coastal, Bay Waters After Rain

The Department of Environmental Health has issued a general advisory that levels of bacteria could rise significantly in ocean and bay water due to the recent rainfall.

Water near storm drains, creeks, rivers and lagoon outlets that discharge urban runoff are especially vulnerable.

Urban runoff may contain large amounts of bacteria from sources like animal waste, soil and decomposing vegetation.

Swimming, surfing and riving should be avoided for at least 72 hours following rain.
