Victims in Double Fatal Parking Lot Shooting in Colina Del Sol Identified

Homicide investigators have identified the two victims of a Sunday morning parking lot shooting in Colina Del Sol.

At 12:18 a.m., police responded to a 911 call saying three people had been shot onthe 5200 block of El Cajon Boulevard.

Initial reports said three victims and another adult woman were driving through a parking lot when they stopped next to a group of men standing near a lightpole, suddenly, police said.

At least one man walked up to the group after some sort of verbal confrontation and fired several shots at the victims.

Deon Fontaine Peterson, 27, and Joseph Anthony Ponder, 26, both of Oceanside, were identified as two of the men in the car. They suffered fatal gunshot wounds to their upper bodies and were pronounced dead on scene.

Another woman, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Mercy Hospital, and her wounds as of Sunday night were considered non-life threatening. A fourth person in the car was not injured.

On Sunday night, Ponder's mother spoke exclusively to NBC7 and begged for anyone with information to come forward, crying that she would have to bury her son.

โ€œMy sonโ€™s gone,โ€ Pollard told NBC7 through tears. โ€œIt was innocent kids coming to have a Halloween party and they pulled up in the wrong spot."

One suspect was described as wearing a white t-shirt. The suspects were last seen running eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to call the San Diego Police Departmentโ€™s Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
