Man Dies After Being Shot in the Face

A male victim was shot in the face in La Mesa Friday night, police confirmed.

La Mesa police responded to reports of a shooting at Myrtle Lane and Johnson Drive just before 10 p.m.

Residents in the area said they heard the sound of a gunshot.

Shortly thereafter a man in his 20s was found lying on the street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face, police said.

Medics were called to treat the shooting victim, who was transported to a local hospital.

A report released by the Medical Examiner’s office Saturday confirmed the shooting victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital at approximately 4:30 a.m.

The man was 23 years old and was later identified by the Medical Examiner's office as Hugo Alberto Solorio Mora .

Police said they do not have a suspect description at this time. It is unclear if the shooting suspect fled the scene on foot or by car.

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide. The motive remains unknown.
