Homicide Investigation Launched in East Village

A man died from injuries sustained in a possible assault in downtown’s East Village area Wednesday, police confirmed.

The deadly incident happened around 5:40 p.m. near the trolley tracks at Park Boulevard and K Street.

Officers were called to the scene to investigate a report of a person down. When they arrived, they discovered a man suffering from critical head injuries.

Medics were called, but the man was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

The incident is under investigation, and officers say they're investigating the case as a homicide.

Officials say there was some type of altercation at the scene between the man and another person. The victim may have been assaulted, or may have hit his head during the fight.

Police say the victim was a transient, though his name has not yet been released. It is unclear, at this point, if a weapon was used in the incident.
