Unemployment Falls in San Diego

Jobs in retail and hospitalilty see growth

While the numbers might not be large, there was a fall in unemployment across San Diego, reports North County Times.

1,800 jobs were created in San Diego, according to numbers released by the state's Employment Development Department.

The county's unemployment rate stood at 10.1 percent in December which was down from 10.4 inNovember of the same year, according to EDD. That number is down a full point from January when the rate was at 11.1.

In the North County, sectors like hotel and leisure are seeing growth in numbers, according to NCT, with construction on small hotels beginning in Vista and Oceanside over the past few months.

Of the 1,800 jobs added, retail saw the biggest growth with 1,100 new jobs, or 61 percent of the total. Transportation and Utilities sectors also saw a rise in numbers, reports NCT.

Unemployment in California overall was down as well, standing at 12.3 percent in December after being at 12.4 in November.
