UK Opens Office in San Diego to Promote Economic, Cultural Ties

UK opens San Diego office "to develop exciting new business partnerships and closer connections on scientific advancement.”

The United Kingdom announced the opening of a new San Diego office intended to strengthen its existing economic and cultural ties with the city.

The office, one of three the U.K. is opening in the United States this year, will be staffed by the newly appointed U.K. consul for San Diego, David Pasquini. The San Diego native has worked since November 2013 as vice-consul for the U.K.’s Department for International Trade in Los Angeles, where he developed the U.K.’s investment and trade promotion strategy for U.S. aerospace, space, defense, marine, chemical and food-and-drink sectors.

The office’s location has not been disclosed because officials are still working to ensure its security. A media representative said the location will be announced within the next week or so.

The U.K. ambassador to the United States, Sir Kim Darroch, said the decision to open a San Diego office reflects the importance his country sees in building “an ever stronger and broader U.K.-U.S. special relationship.

“In San Diego there are opportunities to develop exciting new business partnerships and closer connections on scientific advancement,” he said in a news release.

Nikia Clarke, executive director of San Diego’s World Trade Center, noted the U.K. is consistently the city’s largest trade and investment market, and that “we look forward to an even more robust working relationship with the opening of this new office.”

The U.K. also has offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C., as well as honorary consuls.
