UCSD Student Sexually Assaulted in Dorm

Attack happened on UCSD property

A composite sketch was released Sunday of a man who sexually assaulted a woman inside her apartment at a UCSD graduate student housing complex on Regents Road, said UCSD police.

The victim had come home around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, said a police source. She didn't realize that a man had followed her when she entered through her front door. The man was armed with a knife and quickly tied her up.  He tried to rape her, but she resisted, so he left.

The victim did not suffer any serious physical injuries, said UCSD spokesperson Rex Graham.

A nearby resident said a man matching the attacker's description had tried to block her from leaving the parking lot on Tuesday. "He stopped right in front of me, it was really strange, so I went up on the curb because he kind of freaked me out," said Jennifer Merryman. "This guy just came out of the blue, but I just got a bad feeling about him."

The attacker is described as a light-skinned man between 20 and 30 years old, 5’6” to 5’9” and weighs about 160 lbs. He was wearing a baseball cap and a white Chargers T-shirt with jeans.  He also had facial hair, said police.
