The University of California school system is proposing to increase student fees for the coming academic year.
The 9.3 percent hike proposal released Wednesday is the latest move by the 10-campus system to help close a $450 million budget deficit. The UC Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on the proposal when it meets in San Diego next week.
Under the plan, UC undergraduate fees for California residents would increase $662 to $7,788 a year, while nonresident tuition would rise 10 percent to about $22,000.
Fees for most graduate students would also increase by 9.3 percent.
UC President Mark Yudof said the fee increases will be offset by expanded grants and tax credits for college tuition in the federal stimulus package.
