Trapped Victim Extracted from Car Crash

A two-vehicle crash at a busy Kearny Mesa intersection Thursday night left one person trapped inside a wrecked vehicle, authorities confirmed.

The collision happened around 6:10 p.m. at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Convoy Street.

Medics were requested for two patients, San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Tricia Pollett said.

One driver was trapped inside one of the cars but was extracted by emergency rescue workers using the Jaws of Life.

Pollett said that victim was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was in stable status. She said rescue officials spoke with the man’s family at the scene and were able to reassure them that their loved one would be just fine.

Meanwhile, the other driver involved in the crash declined medical attention and was not transported to a hospital, Pollett said.

Police provided traffic control at the scene.

After extracting the victim rescue officials turned the scene over to police, who are handling the investigation into the cause of the crash.

No other injuries were reported.
