It was a dangerous situation in La Jolla Friday as a boat caught fire about two miles offshore and quickly became engulfed in flames.
Witnesses say the fire lasted about 20 minutes.
"The intensity of the fire, it was incredible, " said Captain Bob Blurd. "This was not your average flames going up, this fire was intense. There were flames I'm going say 30 feet in the air."
The two people aboard the boat were rescued and brought back to shore. He says they were very lucky to have got off the boat safely, thanks to the quick response of lifeguards.
No word yet on what caused the fire but the boat is a total loss.
