Group Flees After Crashing Truck into House

Witnesses said they saw as many as six people run from the truck following the crash

A pickup truck slammed into house in Encinitas, crashing right through the living room, authorities confirmed.

The collision happened around 6 p.m. Saturday at a residence on the 1800 block of MacKinnon Avenue at Cathy Lane, near Orkney Lane.

According to deputies, the driver of a red pickup truck smashed through a metal fence and brick wall before slamming into the home. The vehicle was left running and the suspects took off.

No injuries were reported. The home’s owner said nobody was home at the time.

Encinitas Fire Battalion Chief Mike Gibbs said the truck went fully through the living room, where it came to a stop. Gibbs said the property owner would have to call in a structural engineer before the home can be occupied again.

No further information was released about the estimated cost of damages to the home.

Witnesses told NBC 7 they saw as many as six people run from the truck, leaving behind a pile of beer cans.

The crash is under investigation and officials will determine whether alcohol played a factor.
