A man was in critical condition after his wheelchair collided with a pickup truck late Friday in El Cajon, according to El Cajon police.
The man was in his motorized wheelchair on the north sidewalk of east Main Street at South Second Avenue when he darted out into the street and oncoming traffic, said Lt. J. D. Arvan with ECPD.
Just as the man darted out a pickup truck was heading west bound inside the lane closets to the center median. As the truck continued it collided with the wheelchair, said Arvan.
The man sustained potentially life-threatening injuries due to the accident and was transported to Sharo Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition on Friday.
Authorities said that there was no initial indication that alcohol was a factor in the collision.
