Trolley Upgrades Close Station

Starting today, the Washington Street station on the trolley will be closed through mid-August for major upgrades.

Officials with Metropolitan Transit System’s said new low-floor Trolleys, track and station platforms are all part of the project to update the system over the next several years.

Alternative routes are open for passengers to access Washington Street by taking the Route 10 bus from old town, according to the MTS website.

The upgrade project is focused on the Blue and Orange line that will improve station amenities, raise platforms and replace old and overhead wires MTS officials said. As an added bonus, riders will see minutes shaved off travel time.

Construction on the trolley system began in Fall 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by 2015.Click here for more information on the trolley renewal project.
