Trees For Troops Lights Up The Holidays

The program delivers trees to Marine families who can't afford them.

About 150 Marine families are decorating their Christmas trees after Marine Corps Community Services distributed the trees Thursday at MCRD.

The 'Trees for Troops'  program is in its sixth year.

They've partnered with Federal Express to deliver the trees to families who couldn't afford them.

"What it tells them," says Hezekiah Barge with the U.S.Marine Corps, "Is that their fellow Americans love them.  And are thinking enough of them to offer up their time and money and other resources in order to bless them in such a way . And so it's a great expression of thank you for serving in the military."

About 900 trees were given away to Marines and their families at Camp Pendleton.  The 'Trees for Troops' program has delivered more than 67,000 trees to service members since it began in 2005.
