A large eucalyptus tree fell on people at the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot on Thursday morning, according to the fire department.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. in front of the MCRD museum, according to San Diego Fire Department spokesperson Maurice Luque. One person has been taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and two women were transported to a hospital for minor head injuries.
At least 15 people have minor injuries, according to officials. The majority of the people suffered minor scrapes and bruises.
Officials the tree is old, but they're calling the situation a "freak accident."
MCRD officers plan to go around the base and evaluate any other trees that look old and remove them. Crews are currently chopping the tree that fell and will dispose the branches.
