‘Thrasher' Co-Founder Kills Self

The man who walked up to the Mission Police Station early Monday, pulled out a gun, and shot himself in the head, has been identified as Eric Swenson, 64, co-founder of the popular skateboarding magazine, "Thrasher."

One of Swenson's neighbors on Rhode Island St in Potrero, told Mission Local, she was shocked to hear of his suicide.

“I just heard him playing guitar last Saturday,”  said Kelly,  Swenson’s neighbor who had known him since 1993.

Swenson and Fausto Vitello founded "Thrasher" magazine in 1981 with Kevin Thatcher.

"Thrasher's" homepage said today “Eric Swenson got things done. Never one to clamor for the spotlight, he preferred the hard work, orchestrating the show from behind the scenes.”

He is survived by his wife Linda and his sister Rebekah.

It is unclear why he took his own life.
