The spill caused a traffic backup on the northbound 5 Freeway and both sides of the 405 Freeway (map).

The southbound side of the 405 Freeway was slow from the 14 Freeway. The northbound side was backed up to Nordhoff Street.

The cleanup was finished at about noon.

The initial CHP report at 9:44 a.m. indicated that the sanitation truck's load was on fire as the vehicle was traveling on the freeway. The driver pulled over near the freeway interchange.
