Transit Riders Left Stranded by Economy

Expect fare hikes and cuts to routes

North County transit riders, already upset about fare increases and cuts to bus-routes, can expect more painful changes in the future.

The district, which has seen recent declines in sales tax and state grant revenue, projects a $2.7 million deficit next year, according to our media partners at the North County Times

The state has also siphoned off roughly $10 million in gas tax revenue that the district was promised. 

The district wants to renegotiate all its contracts as part of an attempt to bring revenues in line with expenses

The district could be facing a $20 million deficit by 2013.
