Train Fatally Hits Pedestrian in Encinitas

A northbound Coaster train fatally hit a pedestrian near Sanford Street and North Vulcan Avenue in Encinitas Saturday evening, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

The victim was hit on the tracks around 7:40 p.m., and has not yet been identified.

The train was traveling at approximately 84 miles an hour when the engineer saw the woman. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Bus service was provided for northbound train passengers while train service is stopped. 

Service was delayed about an hour.
