Thousands of Bullets Left at Church

Crate marked "Made in Russia" forced church evacuation

The San Diego County Sheriff's bomb squad is investigating a suspicious crate left on the doorsteps of a local church.

Deputies recieved a call last night from Saint James Catholic Church in Solana Beach about the large box marked  "Made in Russia."

Once they evacuated the church, they looked inside the crate and found about 2,000 rounds of  AK-47 Russian bullets, several  M-16 magazines loaded with bullets and two .44 Magnum rounds.

The crate was cleared out and no one was injured.

Deputies say people sometimes take unwanted ammunition to a police station after a relative dies, but it's unusual for someone to leave such items at a church.
