UC San Diego Health says the personal information of hundreds of patients was accessed in a data breach involving a third-party company.
The breach affected about 45,000 people, including 619 UC San Diego Health patients, when a former employee accessed data from the medical transcription provider Nuance Communications, the medical center said.
Although the breach happened between Nov. 20, 2017 and Dec. 9, 2017, UC San Diego Health delayed reporting the breach to its patients at the request of federal law enforcement, they said.
The patients were informed of the breach through a notification letter.
The federal investigation concluded that none of the information was misused or disclosed beyond the initial breach, according to UC San Diego Health.
