A friend of a man accused of going to Burger King after hitting a woman with a pickup testified that the men were drinking pitchers of beer before the woman was hit in a crosswalk.
Alan Mabry is accused of driving into Emily Dowdy, 24, as she was walked on Mission Boulevard in February. Mabry is facing second-degree murder charges in the connection with the case.
At a preliminary hearing Thursday, a friend of the defendant said he was riding in the truck when the accident happened and that the two had been drinking pitchers of beer at nearby bars.
"I remember telling Alan, ‘Jesus Christ, I think we hit somebody,' " Terry Floor testified.
Mabry fled the accident scene and went to Burger King, prosecutors said. They said Mabry has a long history of DUI convictions and served time in prison for drinking and driving in Texas.
