A teenager has died following a skateboarding accident in Chula Vista on Wednesday night, according to officials.
Justin Hertzberg, 14, was struck by a car when he was skateboarding in the street, according to police. Police said he fell off his board and was then hit by an oncoming vehicle on the 800-block of Nacion Avenue.
Wedge said medics transported the teenager to a local hospital with serious injuries. Justin was pronounced dead a short time later at UCSD Medical Center.
Justin went to Hilltop High School in Chula Vista, according to Principal Ernesto Zamudio. Grief counselors are on site and will remain at the school throughout the day.
Friends of Justin said he was part of the skateboarding club at school, which held its first meeting the day of the incident.
Zamudio said students are making posters for Justin's parents.
The accident is under investigation and officials do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the death.
