Teen Slips in Ravine at Adobe Falls, Rescued by Helicopter: SDFD

A teenage girl who slipped and hit her head in an Adobe Falls ravine was rescued by a helicopter, San Diego Fire-Rescue (SDFD) officials said.

The incident happened at approximately 12:50 p.m. Sunday when the teen and a group of friends were hiking in Adobe Falls.

Adobe Falls is located on land owned by San Diego State University (SDSU), across Interstate 8. No one else was injured.

Officials responded to the call with fire engines and medics, but ultimately ended up hoisting her up to the helicopter and flying her directly to Sharp Hospital, fire officials said.

Authorities did not have any details on the extent of her injuries.

In regards to the incident, SDSU released the following statement: "SDSU has been taking proactive steps to limit access to Adobe Falls. There are multiple entrances to the canyon that leads to the falls, each of which is controlled by a different entity."

"SDSU recently installed a fence at an entrance located on our property. We have also 'no trespassing' signs up at key locations," continued the statement.

The statement concluded: "In cooperation with the City of San Diego and Caltrans, we have been working to find ways to limit access to the property from their entrances as well. Finally, SDSU Police responds to calls for service from the community and patrols the area and cites trespassers."

No other information was immediately available.
