Teen Injured in Possible Gang Shooting in San Marcos

A teenager was injured in a possible gang shooting Sunday in San Marcos near the Vista border, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDSO).

The shooting happened around 3:40 p.m. in the 200 block of Smilax Road, about 1 mile away from Palomar College, sheriff's Sgt. Nate Rowley said.

There were multiple reports of gunshots in the area, he said.

Investigators said a Hispanic man fired several bullets a group of other Hispanic men who were standing near the Mariposa Apartment Complex.

"Both the suspect, and the victims, fled the area prior to the deputies arriving at the scene," Rowley said.

Later Sunday, a 19-year-old Hispanic arrived at Palomar Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He told investigators he was shot on Smilax Road, Rowley said.

Gang detectives from both the Vista and San Marcos Sheriff's Stations are investigating the shooting he said.
