Passengers Punch, Rob Taxi Driver

A San Diego taxi driver was beaten and robbed by a group of four passengers Thursday night after they asked him to stop in an alley, police confirmed.

The 55-year-old driver, who works for the DBA Zula Cab company, picked up a group of two men and two women at 30th Street and University Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

After about a two-mile ride, investigators said the group directed the driver to stop in an alley in the 4000 block of Wilson Avenue in the Corridor neighborhood.

Police said that’s when all four suspects allegedly began punching the driver, stealing his wallet, cellphone and cash before fleeing the area.

The victim suffered facial injuries in the beating and was transported to a local hospital.

The suspects are described by police as being between 25 and 30 years old. One man was wearing a white jacket with blue stripes, while the other man was wearing a black hooded top. No further description details were released.

The robbery is under investigation and as of Friday morning, no arrests had been made. Anyone with information on the case should contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
