Suspicious Object Blown-up Near Restaurant

San Diego Police officers and members of the bomb squad remained on the scene of a suspicious device Friday morning, wrapping up their investigation.

Police were called around 5 a.m. by a man noticed a six-inch pipe with capped ends on the ground in an alley behind the Black Angus restaurant on Sports Arena Blvd.

The device did not contain explsosives and was found to be harmless, San Diego Fire and Rescue spokesperson Maurice Luque said.  However, it could have been a pipe bomb someone was working on, and left.

The device has been detonated and there is no threat to the area.

A spokesman for the Sports Arena said this will not affect the 11 am show, "Walking with Dinosaurs."
