Suspicious Fire Burns Boy's Face

Fire investigators are probing a blaze that left a child with burns to his face, top of his head, and hands and feet, according to a published report.

The boy was injured in a Tuesday bedroom, an Oceanside fire battalion chief said. The boy's father suffered less serious burns when he pulled the child out of the burning room, Battalion Chief Rob Dunham told the North County Times. Dunham also told the paper the fire was suspicious.

The fire was reported in the garage of a home on Apache Street, near Oceanside Boulevard, just before 5:30 p.m., Dunham said. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that a resident at the home had already doused the fire, which had been confined to what appeared to be an extra bedroom or TV room constructed in the garage, Dunham said.

The boy suffered severe burns to the face, the top of the head, feet and hands before his father realized the room was burning and pulled his son out, Dunham said.
