Suspicious Device Investigated Near UCSD

Bomb squad responded to report at a construction area

A suspicious device was reported at a construction site near UCSD Thursday morning, authorities said.

The San Diego Fire Department's bomb squad responded to the report at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a department spokesperson.

The device was reported in a canyon on the 9300 block of Campus Point Dr., near Thorton Hospital on the UCSD campus.

The bomb squad determined that the device was an old military ordnance. Authorities did not specify what exacly the ordnance included. The fire department was able to dispose of it safely.

The hospital was not evacuated and there were no injuries reported.
