2 Suspects Arrested, 1 Outstanding in City Heights Pursuit

San Diego police are still searching for one suspect after three people led officers on a pursuit through City Heights.

Officers tried to pull the car over late Sunday night for speeding, but the driver fled. “At the intersection of Swift and El Cajon Blvd. they pitched an item out of the passenger window that turned out to be a gun, a loaded .45 caliber handgun that was recovered by police officers.” SDPD Lt. Andra Brown, said. The gun was reported stolen a year ago.

All three people in the car bailed out in the alley of the 4100 block of Swift. One suspect was immediately taken into custody. The driver ran through several backyards before running into a police perimeter and being arrested. The third suspect was not caught.

“You never know what’s inside the vehicle,” Brown said, referring to the gun. “Because the officers were very diligent and stayed with it they got a gun off the street. Speeders aren’t good, guns are worse. We want to get those off the street.”

Police were not able to establish if the car was stolen because their system was down at the time.

Both suspects in custody were wanted on prior parole/probation violations. It's unclear if the third suspect had prior violations.
