Suspected DUI Driver Crashes Car Up a Tree in Rancho Santa Fe

The crash disturbed a beehive, creating a swarm that made it difficult for rescue firefighters to get to the driver, officials said

A car came to a rest on its nose and perched against a tree after a suspected drunk driver lost control and crashed in Rancho Santa Fe Thursday, authorities said. 

The driver was speeding down La Orilla near El Camino Real when at about 11:30 p.m. he lost control and crashed into a brick wall and landed against a tree on the side of the road, a security officer said. 

The crash disturbed a beehive, creating a swarm that made it difficult for rescue firefighters to get to the driver, officials said. 

The driver was hurt but is expected to be okay. He faces charges for suspicion of DUI.
