Suspect Linked to La Mesa Murder Arrested

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in La Mesa on Oct. 4.

The shooting took place Thursday around 5:30 p.m. in the 5800-block of Amarillo Drive.

The victim, 33-year-old Josue Rodriguez, was shot in the head in front of a residence and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police scoured the area for hours searching for the suspect or suspects involved in the deadly shooting, but weren’t able to immediately locate the suspects.

On Monday, the La Mesa Police Department announced that an arrest had been made in the case.

The investigation led detectives to a home in the 1800 block of G Avenue in National City where they believed a suspect was hiding.

After obtaining a search warrant, National City Police and the La Mesa Special Response Team worked together to arrest 32-year-old suspect Antonio Garcia of La Mesa.

Police said Garcia will be booked into jail on a murder charge.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
