Suspect Attempts to Sexually Assault Woman, Steals Her Car: SDPD

A custodian was attacked by a man who attempted to sexually assault her while she was working at a Little Italy business early Sunday morning.

The armed suspect entered Cafe Italia around 4:33 a.m. and pushed the victim into a back room, according to the San Diego Police Department. The woman was able to fight him off and ran out of the building.

The suspect then took the victim's car keys and stole her tan 1998 GMC Jimmy. He was seen driving northbound from the 1700 block of India Street, police said.

SDPD Sex Crimes Unit was called to the scene and conducted the investigation.

The suspect is described as a man with a medium complexion, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 5 inches, thin build and approximately 130 pounds.

Police said he was unshaven with dark, curly hair. He was wearing a white baseball cap with black stripes and stars resembling an American flag, a black short sleeve t-shirt and tan shorts with dark high top tennis shoes with white trim.

The car's license is a California plate 7VOY594, SDPD said.

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are currently searching for additional witnesses and evidence.
