Suspect Arrested in Death of 94-Year-Old Woman

Jean Eskridge's body was found in her mobile home in Ramona on Tuesday

Homicide investigators have arrested a 63-year-old man in connection with the suspicious death of a 94-year-old Ramona resident.

On Tuesday, paramedics were called to the mobile home of Jean Eskridge in the Ramona Terrace Estates in the 1200 block of H Street.

When authorities arrived, they found Eskridge’s body with obvious signs of trauma and called the Ramona Sheriff’s Department homicide unit for backup.

On Wednesday night, Lt. Larry Nesbit of the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail held a briefing for media where he confirmed that a man named Gary Allen Thomas had been taken into custody in connection with the murder of Eskridge.

Thomas -- who lived in the same mobile home park as Eskridge -- is being booked into San Diego Central Jail for one count of murder, according to officials.

No further details have been released and the investigation is ongoing.

Eskridge's son told NBC 7 San Diego on Tuesday that his mother was a retired dance teacher who enjoyed gambling and playing cards.

Her neighbor, Bob Chambers, confirmed that Eskridge loved to dance and had just attended two local clubhouse dances last weekend.
