Suspect Arrested In Border Agent's Death

Mexican authorities said they arrested a man suspected of running over and killing a U.S. Border Patrol agent last year in southeastern California.

Department of Justice officials said Jesus Navarro Montes, 22, was arrested on a drug warrant Wednesday morning near Zihuatanejo, Mexico. He is awaiting extradition to the United States.

FBI agents in San Diego want to question Navarro about the death of border agent Luis Aguilar in January 2008 in Imperial County, in California.

Mexican authorities arrested and charged Navarro with migrant smuggling soon after Aguilar's death but released him in June, prompting outrage from the U.S government.

Officials said Navarro was driving a Hummer full of drugs when he struck Aguilar, who was trying to use spike strips to stop the vehicle from returning to Mexico.
